What's left behind the scenes

  • Details of the cafe scene at the beginning of the film correspond to details from “The Runaway” (this is a Norman Rockwell illustration on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post from September 20, 1958). These include the bundle of belongings on the floor, the vendor behind the counter, the white plank wall behind him, the board with the inscription “Today’s Specials,” the chrome bar stools with green seats at the counter, the coffee machine on the right, the pastry display case on the left, and the radio near the display case. The film also adds a display case with Kellogg products. In Rockwell’s illustration, a police officer, who suspiciously looks at a small runaway, occupies the place of Jerry Seinfeld (who played Bob Cabana and was also the director and screenwriter).
  • Jerry Seinfeld reported in an interview that he did not seek permission from Kellogg to use the names of its products, and stated that they are free to sue him.
  • Kellogg actively participated in promoting the film, and in particular, in creating a promotional short film featuring Jerry Seinfeld.
  • The California University in Irvine administrative building was used for the Kellogg headquarters building, with its height increased by several floors using computer technology.
  • Pop-Tarts (this is the name of the pastry, the most popular brand from Kellogg – two layers of baked dough with a sweet filling between them) were originally called Fruit Scones, but the name didn't appeal to adult customers, so the product was renamed Pop-Tarts (here one can feel the influence of the Pop Art movement, a prominent representative of which was Andy Warhol).
  • Much of the scene where the mascots storm Kellogg headquarters is borrowed from the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
  • Details of the cafe scene at the beginning of the film coincide with details from "The Runaway" (this is a Norman Rockwell illustration on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post from September 20, 1958). This includes the bundle of belongings on the floor, the vendor behind the counter, the white plank wall behind him, a board with the inscription "Today's Menu", chrome bar stools with green seats at the counter, a coffee machine on the right, a pastry display case on the left, and a radio near the display case. The film also adds a display case with Kellogg's products. In Rockwell's illustration, a police officer, suspiciously looking at the little runaway, occupies the place of Jerry Seinfeld (who played Bob Cabana and was also the director and screenwriter).
