What's left behind the scenes

  • Both main characters were named after the famous silent film comedian Harold Lloyd.
  • In the airport, in the background, you can hear the dispatcher's voice: 'The white zone is for loading and unloading passengers only, no parking in the white zone.' This is a reference to the cult comedy 'Airplane!', where the terminal announcer says exactly this phrase.
  • A poster for the film '10' is hanging on the wall in the main characters' home.
  • When the heroes are driving in a car with Joe Mentalino, Lloyd performs "the most annoying sound in the world." This gag was not originally in the script; it is pure improvisation by Jim Carrey.
  • On the walls of the gas station restroom, among many inscriptions, one can discern "Bye Bye William Frawley." This is a reference to the famous American actor.
  • In Aspen, the heroes drive a Lamborghini Diablo. A branch of the Lamborghini company is located in this city.
  • Besides Jim Carrey, other well-known actors such as Steve Martin and Martin Short also auditioned for the role of Lloyd Christmas.
  • The full version of the film has a runtime of 113 minutes.
  • At a roadside cafe, the protagonists trick one of the truck drivers into paying their bill. Later, while driving in the car, Harry asks Lloyd how he came up with the idea. Lloyd replies that he saw a similar trick in a movie. This is a reference to the film "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," in which Jeff Daniels' character performs the same trick on Ray Liotta's character.
  • Leaving the Aspen bar, Lloyd notices a newspaper clipping on the wall and exclaims: "No way... that's crazy. We've landed on the Moon!". This joke was not in the script; Jim Carrey came up with it himself during filming.
  • There is an alternative ending to the film. In it, the hotel manager, where the main characters stayed, offers Lloyd and Harry to work as nannies for his little grandson. The grandson turns out to be the blind boy to whom Lloyd sold a dead parrot at the beginning of the film. An ending where Lloyd and Harry agree to go with the bikini girls was also considered, but Carrey refused.
  • At the 10-minute mark of the film, when Lloyd is trying to get rid of the airbag, you can notice that the steering wheel is not damaged, even though the airbag should have deployed from it.
  • When Nicholas "shot" Harry, it can be noticed that he ran out of bullets (the bolt remained locked back). Then he threatens Lloyd with an empty gun, and a second later, when Harry gets up, Nicholas already has a loaded gun.
