- The film by "Orion Pictures" used the results of 27 years of research conducted by Keith Bosshardt, whose efforts culminated in 2004 with the reopening of the case of the murder of Emmett Till (1941-1955).
- Simeon Wright, Till's cousin, who witnessed everything that happened to him firsthand, worked as a film consultant until his death in 2017. The film's screenplay was written by director Chinonye Chukwu in collaboration with producers Michael Reilly and Keith Boshan.
- Emmett Till's swollen face, almost unrecognizable, gained notoriety thanks to a photograph taken by David Jackson, which was first published in Jet magazine.
