• The film is based on Irvine Welsh's novel 'Filth' (1998).
• The room where Bruce’s consultation with the doctor takes place is very similar to the room from the film '2001: A Space Odyssey' (1968).
• One of the singers in David Soul's car during the performance of 'Silver Lady' is his daughter, Hina Soul.
• In early versions of the script, the song 'I Wanna Know What Love Is' by Foreigner was supposed to be sung in the car. But Irvine Welsh chose 'Silver Lady'.

• In the scene where the sick Bruce is vomiting, James McAvoy, who played him, actually threw up.
