Joe Eszterhas wrote the screenplay for the film based on Ira Levin's novel and distorted it to such an extent that he even changed the killer's identity.
The book 'Flesh and Blood' that Jack sends to Carly has a poster for the film 'Dead Calm' (1989), also directed by Phillip Noyce, on the cover.
To film an active volcano for the opening credits, the film crew went to Hawaii. However, during filming, the volcano erupted, and the helicopter with the crew crashed. Everyone survived, but the footage was destroyed. Ultimately, the film only retained a reference to this lost scene: a crystal volcano in Zeke's room.
