Jonas was modeled after American preacher Jim Jones, the leader of the religious sect 'The Peoples Temple,' based in Guyana and which committed mass suicide in November 1978 (approximately 900 people died).
To increase the runtime, Lenci inserted excerpts from other 'cannibal' films into the movie, in particular, Cannibal Holocaust and 'Man from Deep River.' Incidentally, Ivan Rassimov and Mi Mi Lai also starred in the latter.
