What's left behind the scenes
- The original title of the script was 'The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking'.
- Keri Hilson auditioned for the role of Dale. The role ultimately went to Katee Sackhoff, but David Twohy was so impressed with Hilson's charisma that he wrote a small role specifically for her.
- The film's production was threatened with disruption due to a financing delay. Ultimately, Vin Diesel took on financing the film until the bank loan issue was resolved.
- Vin Diesel agreed to play a cameo role in 'The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift' (2006) in exchange for the rights to the 'Riddick' franchise from Universal Pictures. This allowed him to independently produce 'Riddick'.
- Matthew Nable's character, Boss Jones, is the father of William J. Johns, who was played by Cole Hauser in 'Pitch Black' (1999). In real life, Nable is only three years older than Hauser.
- At the end of the film, when Dale descends from the ship to tie Riddick to the rope, it is raining. However, Dale and Riddick are completely dry. Even Dale's hair blows freely in the wind.
