Work on the film began under the direction of Overture Films. Later, Relativity Media took over the film, and a few months after that, Relativity Media bought Overture Films.
George Clooney turned down a cameo role as himself in a scene where he would have been shown awkwardly hitting on women.
Colin Farrell could have played the role of the leprechaun.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone could have been involved in directing the film, but they declined.
Anton Yelchin was originally in an episode directed by Bob Odenkirk. He played the role of a necrophile. But after extremely negative feedback at a test screening, Yelchin left the project.
The credits state that Bob Odenkirk directed two segments, but these scenes are not present in the American release.
