Short description
Based on the 1930's comic strip, puts the hero up against his arch enemy, Shiwan Khan, who plans to take over the world by holding a city to ransom using an atom bomb. Using his powers of invisibility and "The power to cloud men's minds", the Shadow comes blazing to the city's rescue with explosive results.
What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, Sam Raimi was intended to direct the film, but he did not obtain the rights to the script.
- The Shadow in this film is a combination of versions of the character from radio dramas and pulp magazines. The ability of the hero to become invisible was borrowed from the radio dramas, as were the characters of Margot Lane and Lamont Cranston as the hero's visible alter ego. Elements borrowed from the magazine version include the costume, the network of agents working for the hero, and his semi-automatic pistols.
- Tim Curry agreed to participate in the filming primarily because of the opportunity to work with Ian McKellen.
