What's left behind the scenes
- According to fishermen from the coast of Baja California (the northernmost state of Mexico), the legend of the Black Demon has been passed down from generation to generation. It is claimed that encounters with this creature have cost the lives of thousands of people, and their bodies have disappeared without a trace. It is also claimed that the Black Demon is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of whales whose carcasses are regularly found along the entire Pacific coast. The creature has been sighted in the Gulf of California, but there is no solid evidence of its existence.
- At one point, Paul (played by Josh Lucas) puts on a diving mask and says his mouth is dry. The same words are spoken by Hooper, played by Richard Dreyfuss in Steven Spielberg's 1975 film "Jaws," before he puts on a mask and climbs into a shark cage.
