Short description
Detectives Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey of the Miami Narcotics Task Force are tasked with stopping the flow of the drug ecstasy into Miami. They track the drugs to the whacked-out Cuban drug lord Johnny Tapia, who is also involved in a bloody war with Russian and Haitian mobsters. If that isn't bad enough, there's tension between the two detectives when Marcus discovers that playboy Mike is secretly romancing Marcus’ sister, Syd.
What's left behind the scenes
- A video game based on the film was made in 2004.
- The Cuban villain's underground morgue is, in reality, just the MacArthur Milk Company with a false facade.
- The motion sensors in the villain's mansion were created by the same developers who made similar devices for the action film 'The Rock' (1996).
- The mansion blown up in Cuba wasn’t a set, but a real house, 'The Birdhouse' in Florida, sold by its owner specifically for the filming.
- Permission to film the water chase was obtained from the Governor of Florida – Jeb Bush, brother of the former US President.
- The main characters drive a Ferrari sports car, but it’s not the same model. A 550 Maranello was used in some scenes, and a Ferrari 575M Maranello in others.
