What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on Stephanie Meyer's novel "Twilight" (2005).
- Stephanie Meyer made a cameo appearance in the film: when Bella and Charlie went to eat at a cafe, Stephanie was sitting at the bar, drinking coffee.
- Production of the film began in April 2007.
- Filming began in February 2008 and ended on May 2nd of the same year.
- When writing the book, Stephanie Meyer only envisioned Henry Cavill as Edward, but by the time the film adaptation began, the actor had significantly outgrown the role. Tom Sturridge was also considered during casting.
- Kristen Stewart was the first to be cast, followed a month later by Robert Pattinson. The Cullen family was found in February 2008, and Gil Birmingham was the last to join the cast.
- 5,000 actors were auditioned for the role of the vampire Edward. The final four candidates included Robert Pattinson, Jackson Rathbone, Ben Barnes, and Shiloh Fernandez. Robert Pattinson was chosen, and Rathbone eventually played Jasper.
- For the role of Edward Cullen, Robert Pattinson flew from England to director Catherine Hardwicke’s house for an audition. There, he and Kristen Stewart, who had already been cast as Bella Swan, rehearsed the “Love Scene” / “Meadow Scene” on Catherine Hardwicke’s own bed.
- Notably, Robert Pattinson and Tom Sturridge attended the same school together, were the same age, and were best friends; both were leading contenders for the role of Edward.
- Aishwarya Rai was initially considered for the role of Rosalie in the film “Twilight,” but she was unhappy with how “mature” she looked next to Kellan Lutz’s Emmett.
- Cam Gigandet initially auditioned for the role of Emmett Cullen.
- AnnaLynn McCord could have gotten the role of Rosalie, but Catherine Hardwicke preferred Nikki Reed.
- To create the image of Edward, Robert Pattinson had his hair dyed and his hairstyle changed. Every day of filming, he wore brown contact lenses (the actor has blue eyes), and special makeup was applied to him.
- Melissa Rosenberg and Catherine Hardwicke wrote the adapted screenplay in six weeks.
- The main part of the filming took place in Portland, Oregon. The city of St. Helens was also used, and the school where the main characters study in the film is the real Kalama High School.
- The song "Never Think", featured on the "Twilight" soundtrack, was written by the film's lead actor, Robert Pattinson.
- Taylor Lautner wears a wig in the film.
- Actress Ashley Greene (Alice) wore a wig in the film.
- Emile Hirsch recommended Kristen Stewart to director Catherine Hardwicke for the lead role, as he was impressed by their work together in "Into the Wild".
- Honey and chickens were used to simulate human flesh during the fight scene in the ballet studio.
- The Cullen family's wardrobe and home design were developed based on the color scheme characteristic of arctic wolves.
- When 'newborn' vampires appear, the actors Cam Gigandet, Rachelle Lefevre, and Edi Gathegi, who play them, wear small slippers painted to match their skin tone. This creates the illusion of bare feet.
- On the very first day after the film's DVD release, three million copies were sold. This result allowed the film to enter the top five best-selling releases in history.
- When Bella searches for and finds a link to a bookstore in Port Angeles online, a link to 'Little, Brown,' the publisher of 'Twilight' and the other books by Stephenie Meyer, appears above it.
- When Bella drives up to Charlie's house for the first time, you can notice Kristen Stewart's trailer, in which she lived throughout the filming.
- Billy Burke himself decided that his character, Charlie, would have a mustache.
- Three different fawns from a deer farm were used in the film. One of them died before filming even began.
- Edward's car is a Volvo C30.
- Kristen Stewart's dress cost only $20. And Robert Pattinson's suit was the most expensive item of clothing in the entire film.
- The film's soundtrack was released in November 2008 and reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart in its first week of sales. The album sold over 2,000,000 copies worldwide, going double platinum.
- Jennifer Lawrence was considered for the role of Bella Swan.
