Short description
When rogue stealth-fighter pilot Vic Deakins deliberately drops off the radar while on maneuvers, the Air Force ends up with two stolen nuclear warheads -- and Deakins's co-pilot, Riley Hale, is the military's only hope for getting them back. Traversing the deserted canyons of Utah, Hale teams with park ranger Terry Carmichael to put Deakins back in his box.
What's left behind the scenes
- The director's cut of the film initially ran for two hours and contained many more scenes developing the main characters and action sequences.
- For the chance to work with director John Woo, Christian Slater turned down a role in Richard Donner's (1930-2021) action film *Assassins* (1995).
- Christian Slater performed almost all of his own stunts.
- Initially, it was planned that the character played by Howie Long would die early in the film, but the studio executives liked the actor's performance so much that the role was expanded.
- While preparing to film this movie, Christian Slater quit smoking.
- Samantha Mathis turned to her friend Sandra Bullock for advice on performing in action scenes. Bullock advised her to quietly hum the theme from the James Bond films before each take.
- Oliver Wood was originally slated to be the cinematographer, but this was prevented by a knee injury he sustained while filming Renny Harlin's 'Cutthroat Island' (1995).
