What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is a loose adaptation of real-life events.
  • The original titles of the film were "Ivy" and "Our Home".
  • Leonardo DiCaprio appears for a very brief time in the role of one of the students. This is the only role in the actor's career where he doesn't utter a single line.
  • Leonardo DiCaprio's first appearance in a film intended for theatrical release.
  • Drew Barrymore didn't make it to the initial auditions. Director Katt Shea wanted Barrymore for the role of Poison Ivy and arranged a re-audition, but the actress didn't show up again. Shea spoke with the actress's agent and told her she no longer needed Barrymore, but Barrymore pleaded with Shea to give her one more chance. The next auditions were held right at Shea's house, and Barrymore passed them successfully, unaware that Shea's words to her agent were a simple ruse.
  • The film's original titles were "Ivy" and "Our Home".
