Charlize Theron wasn't skilled in fight scenes and accidentally punched Teri Hatcher in the face. As an apology, she bought the actress some cheap beer.
This was Charlize Theron's first audition, so she did everything as she had been taught in acting classes – the more realistic it looked, the better. According to the plot, her character had to appear at a house wounded. When the auditions began, Theron went into the hallway and poured ketchup all over herself, after which she burst into the room, as required, barely staying on her feet, clutching at the furniture and loudly and clearly delivering her lines. It worked, and Theron was cast in the film.
