• Initially, it was assumed that Robert Downey Jr. and Shane Black would work together on this film – they had previously collaborated on the 2005 comedy thriller "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and the 2013 science fiction action film "Iron Man 3" – but for reasons known only to himself, Downey Jr. decided not to star in the project, and was replaced by Mark Wahlberg, while Downey Jr. remained with the production as a producer.
• The criminal syndicate operates under the guise of a company called The Westlake Group. Donald E. Westlake is the author of a series of novels about Parker (played by Mark Wahlberg), one of which served as the basis for this film. Westlake is credited as a screenwriter.
• "Dirty Game" was the original title of the script for the action film "Lethal Weapon 2," written by Shane Black and Warren Murphy. During the filming of "Lethal Weapon 2," the film was noticeably “softened.” Although the original project was rejected by studio executives, Black considered his script for "Lethal Weapon 2" to be his best screenwriting work.
