What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is a remake of the French film "L'Indien à Paris" (The Indian in Paris).
  • After a whole day of filming, the reels were accidentally left in a taxi in New York. These scenes had to be reshot.
  • The film's setting was moved from Paris to New York, and Mimi-Siku was aged up to be older than a minor, as he was in the French original. (This is because it's an American remake of the 1994 French film 'An Indian in Paris', directed by Hervé Palud.) This was mainly due to the fact that audiences in the US generally disapprove of love stories involving characters of that age (in the sense of 'not mature enough'). Additionally, Mimi-Siku grew up in the wild, but the difference in skin color between the two main characters is much less noticeable than in the French film. The difference was downplayed to emphasize their spiritual closeness.
