What's left behind the scenes

  • The plot was based on Agatha Christie's revised novel "Hallowe'en Party" (1969). Director Kenneth Branagh moved the action from the UK to Venice.
  • For the sake of filming this movie, Michelle Yeoh turned down a role in the sci-fi action film "Electric State" (2024) by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo.
  • The director and lead actor, Sir Kenneth Branagh, with the help of the technicians working on the film, arranged frightening surprises for the other actors. Without any warning, the lights would go out, sudden gusts of wind would be felt, doors would suddenly slam shut on the set with a bang, and so on, all of which caused genuine fear among the actors present. Kelly Reilly later recounted in an interview that she was particularly frightened by what happened during a seance.
  • The film was shot on location in Venice. According to Kenneth Branagh, he wanted to use natural locations as much as possible as sets.
  • Sir Kenneth Branagh did not interfere with the work of production designer John Paul Kelly at all.
  • The ancient Greeks and Romans knew that honey from wild bees foraging on rhododendron flowers, collected in mountain meadows near the Black Sea (now part of Turkey), had a powerful effect on those who consumed too much, similar to the effect of opioids on the human body. This is caused by the presence of a substance called andromedotoxin in rhododendron flowers. In addition to its ability to cause hallucinations, such honey is widely believed to have some medicinal properties. Similar honey can also be found in Nepal, but its use is strictly regulated by law in some countries, while in others it is simply prohibited.
  • The plot is based on a reworked version of Agatha Christie’s novel “Hallowe'en Party” (1969). Director Kenneth Branagh moved the setting from the United Kingdom to Venice.
