The film is based on a play by David Mamet.
The largest expense was creating the sound of rain, which drums throughout the first half of the film.
On days when certain cast members weren't directly involved in filming, they would still come to the set to watch others perform.
Rehearsals took three weeks, and filming took 39 days. Many scenes were shot in the first take. Almost everything was filmed in the order it appeared in the script.
Almost immediately after its release, the film began to be used in sales training, and many phrases from it became slogans and were frequently quoted.
No auditions were held for any of the roles in the film. Each actor was offered a role directly by the film's creators.
