• Initially, hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur was cast in one of the roles, but he was fired after a fight with one of the directors, Allen Hughes. Shakur was accused of assault. In a 1988 television appearance, he even boasted about it. A recording of his confession to the talk show host served as evidence against Shakur in court. He was sentenced to 15 days in jail.
• Work on the film had to be suspended for two days when members of the Hacienda Village Bloods street gang trashed the set and decorations built in one of the areas of Los Angeles.
• The scenes at the end of the film, where the character played by Laurence Tate is put into a police car, weren't initially in the script; they were added later. Originally, the intention was to make everything more realistic and show that this character got away with everything.
