Jamie, an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend, and her demure friend Marian desperately needs to loosen up. In search of a fresh start, the two embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way.

- The film was originally intended to be titled “Drive-Away Dykes,” but it was ultimately decided to call it “Drive-Away Dolls.”
- Ethan Coen (credited as director and screenwriter) and Tricia Cooke (screenwriter) filmed the movie together, but neither of them ever contacted the Directors Guild of America to request that they both be credited as directors. Similarly, Joel Coen was always credited in their joint films with his brother as director (until the 2004 thriller “The Ladykillers”), while Ethan Coen was credited as producer. Ethan Coen was already a member of the Directors Guild of America, so he was credited as the director of “Drive-Away Dolls,” and Cooke was credited as producer.
