The Coneheads (as they are originally known) were born on the TV show "Saturday Night Live" (1975). After the characters became established on the show, it was decided to make a full-length film.
Once, Dan Aykroyd brought his three-year-old daughter, Danielle, to the set to show her how movies are made, and she liked the Coneheads’ costumes so much that she asked for one of her own. As a result, she was cast as Connie so she could wear one too.
The French at United International Pictures strongly disliked the aliens pretending to be French and demanded all references to this nationality be removed from the dialogue. This request was not fulfilled.
