Short description
Drew Baylor is fired after causing his shoe company to lose hundreds of millions of dollars. To make matters worse, he's also dumped by his girlfriend. On the verge of ending it all, Drew gets a new lease on life when he returns to his family's small Kentucky hometown after his father dies. Along the way, he meets a flight attendant with whom he falls in love.

What's left behind the scenes

  • One of the scenes was filmed at John Wayne Airport. For the first time since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, filmmakers were allowed to work on airport grounds. The film crew was given only one night to complete everything.
  • The role of Holly Baylor was originally intended for Jane Fonda, but she had to decline due to a shift in the filming schedule.
  • Director Cameron Crowe developed the character of Drew Baylor specifically for Orlando Bloom. However, Orlando turned down the role as he was busy filming 'Kingdom of Heaven' at the time. Ashton Kutcher was brought in to shoot urgently, but he didn't look right alongside Kirsten Dunst. Crowe reviewed many candidates for the role and was already prepared to cast Sean William Scott, but ultimately decided it would be advisable to postpone the film's release. In the end, Orlando Bloom still got the lead role.
  • Kirsten Dunst was also the director's initial choice. But she also faced serious problems – the actress had a contract to participate in the filming of 'The Village'. However, M. Night Shyamalan preferred another actress, and Kirsten was still able to join the cast of 'Elizabethtown'.
