• Danny Glover was offered the role of Wes Luger, but he declined. Samuel L. Jackson was then cast as the sergeant.
• The film is dedicated to the memory of John Coffey.
• A decision to make a sequel was made almost immediately. A slogan was even developed: “Oh come ON, you knew it was coming!” but due to poor box office results, the idea of creating a sequel had to be abandoned.
