Short description
A World War II submarine commander finds himself stuck with a damaged sub, a con-man executive officer, and a group of army nurses.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The episode with the sunken truck was inspired by a real incident in 1944, when on August 9th, the American submarine SS-287 Bowfin tracked four Japanese ships to the port of Minamidaito and attacked them with all six torpedoes from its forward tubes. The torpedoes hit three ships and sank two of them, but one torpedo went off course and hit the pier. An автобус was parked there, which was blown into the water.
  • The American submarine USS Seadragon did indeed go to sea painted red. It was originally painted black, but the paint was scorched during one of the air raids and began to peel while the boat was at sea. During this voyage, the boat sank three Japanese ships.
