What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was released in France in mid-October 2020, on the day the government introduced restrictions due to the second wave of COVID-19. The number of screenings in cinemas was reduced, as was the number of seats, and viewers were only allowed to watch while wearing masks, but despite all this, 1.3 million tickets were sold. Writer and director Tareq Boudali immediately suggested to the producers that they work on a sequel and received permission to do so.
  • Filming the helicopter scene was not easy, as only military helicopters were allowed to fly in that area of Abu Dhabi. The government granted permission for filming and provided a 'Black Hawk' helicopter, but during filming, Tareq Boudali kept having his shirt buttons come undone, revealing his safety harness. He reviewed the footage after filming and found that only the first 15 seconds were usable, meaning the scene would have to be reshot. Then the helicopter developed some technical problems, and another helicopter had to be found, and by the time filming began, Boudali's shirt buttons had been firmly sewn directly to the loops.
  • Only three days were allocated for filming the skyscraper climb in Abu Dhabi, so the filmmakers had no time to rehearse on location. The safety equipment was tested on a building near Paris, but the day before filming began, the filmmakers were informed that due to visits from certain officials, they would have not three days, but only one. They were later given another day for filming, however.
