What's left behind the scenes

  • Nicolas Cage performed almost all of the car stunts himself during filming.
  • In the scene where the Hamer Sphinx destroys the police car, it wasn't planned for the police car to roll down the slope. Vinnie Jones simply didn’t have enough room to reverse and nudged the police car a little harder, causing it to tumble down the slope.
  • One of the early script drafts contained many elements from the original film. For example, before stealing Eleanor, Memphis was supposed to disguise himself as an old man, and the Sphinx wasn't supposed to have a nose, which explained his nickname.
  • During the theft of the last car, Memphis knocks off one of the side mirrors, but half a minute later the car is shown with intact mirrors.
  • In the scene where Sarah Wayland is fixing the car in the garage, the wrenches are arranged differently in each subsequent shot.
  • Filming took place from May 24 to October 10, 1999.
