Short description
In the 1930s, jazz guitarist Emmet Ray idolizes Django Reinhardt, faces gangsters and falls in love with a mute woman.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Woody Allen wrote the screenplay for 'Sweet and Sour' back in 1970 (then titled 'Jazz Baby'), but studio executives insisted on another comedy, and Allen had to postpone work on the story about a fictional jazz guitarist and start making 'Bananas'. For almost 30 years, Allen returned to the idea of filming this movie, realizing his vision in 1999.
  • Samantha Morton, who received an 'Oscar' nomination for Best Supporting Actress in this film, does not utter a single word throughout the entire movie.
