  • This is the last film by cinematographer Harris Savides, who passed away in October 2012, six months after principal photography wrapped. When he fell ill during filming, Chris Bovel was brought on board to complete the movie.
  • This is the first film starring Emma Watson that is not based on a book.
  • The film is based on Nancy Jo Sales' article in Vanity Fair titled "The Suspects Wore Louboutins".
  • Emma Watson's wallet was stolen during filming.
  • Emma Watson said that in preparation for her role, she watched "a ton of reality TV," including "The Hills" (2006-2010) and "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" (2007). She also listened to Britney Spears' album "Femme Fatale" to better understand her character's mindset.
  • Before filming, the cast, at the direction of Sofia Coppola, staged a mock burglary so the director could observe the mistakes they would make.
