Blake Edwards assembled the film 'The Trail of the Pink Panther' from previously unused footage and new material after the sudden death of Peter Sellers from a heart attack at the age of 54.
The film is composed of scenes that were not included in the previous five films of the franchise with Peter Sellers (1925-1980), and new material with other actors was simply filmed. Some of the material included in the film dates back to 1963 – 19 years before the filming of this movie. It is claimed that before this film's release, some archival footage featuring Peter Sellers' character was little known to the general public.
