What's left behind the scenes

  • The creation of 'Tron' involved the renowned French artist Jean Giraud (Moebius) and Syd Mead, famous for his work on 'Blade Runner'.
  • The computer special effects were created on a PDP-10 (Programmed Data Processor, model 10) machine with a total memory of 1152 kilobytes.
  • The programmers who worked on the film "Tron" later also created video games based on it.
  • The terminals of some older computers had a Trace On (TRON) button for step-by-step tracking of program execution (and, accordingly, TROFF). However, the director claims that the name of the program "Tron" came from an abbreviation of the word "Electronic".
  • In one of the episodes, you can also notice the game "Pac-Man" on the display of one of the terminals.
  • This feature film demonstrated computer animation of a face for the first time in the history of cinema, although it was largely simplified.
  • The film became a milestone in the development of CGI in cinema, paving the way for the creation of fully computer-modeled films. According to John Lasseter, the creator of the first such film, "Toy Story", "without 'Tron' there would be no 'Toy Story'."
  • The film was removed from the list of Oscar nominees in the "Best Visual Effects" category because, at the time, the Academy considered the use of computers to be cheating.
  • When one of the characters arrives at his workplace at ENCOM, the inscription “Gort Klaatu Barada Nikto” is visible. This is a reference to the science fiction film "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951).
  • As the programs fly to destroy the "Master Control Program", a Mickey Mouse head-shaped location can be noticed under their ship.
