Short description
Pushed to the breaking-up point after their latest 'why can't you do this one little thing for me?' argument, Brooke calls it quits with her boyfriend Gary. What follows is a hilarious series of remedies, war tactics, overtures and undermining tricks – all encouraged by the former couple's friends and confidantes …and the occasional total stranger! When neither ex is willing to move out of their shared apartment, the only solution is to continue living as hostile roommates until one of them reaches breaking point.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film earned $39.2 million in the United States during its opening weekend. Films starring Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston have never grossed so much in their first weekend of release.
  • In one scene, Gary is playing the game «Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas».
  • Vince Vaughn’s parents appeared in cameo roles in the film. His mother played a tourist, and his father appeared on screen as Jennifer Aniston’s character’s father.
  • Vince Vaughn gained almost 12 kg for the filming. It is claimed that he gained weight after quitting smoking.
  • After reading the script, Jennifer Aniston stated that “it was clearly written by men.” A two-week rehearsal period preceded filming, during which the screenwriters Jeremy Garelick, Jay Lavender, and Vaughn himself actively took notes, and as a result of the rehearsals, the script received the necessary “female perspective” on the situation.
  • Peyton Reed shot two alternative versions of the ending. In the first case, the characters ultimately went their separate ways, while in the second, they stayed together.
  • In one scene, Gary is playing the game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas."
