What's left behind the scenes
- It took 4 hours every morning to apply makeup to Derek Mears, who played the Chameleon.
- The idea for the film came to Wes Craven (who participated in the project as one of the scriptwriters) during a conversation with producer Peter Locke. He imagined that after everything that had happened to her, the heroine from the previous film, Brenda (played by Emily de Ravin), would join the National Guard to overcome her fears. Brenda had just completed her training, and her sergeant announces that the group is being sent back to the New Mexico desert to finish off the surviving mutants. Only Brenda knows the location of the mutants, which is why the sergeant and the group need her. The actress was busy filming "Lost" (2004-2010) and therefore could not participate in the sequel. So Craven replaced her character, but kept most of the concept, including the National Guard training course.
- The actors playing National Guard soldiers undergoing training had to learn some rock climbing skills.
