Short description
Sarah Jordan, an American living in London in 1984, is married to the son of a wealthy British industrialist. She encounters Nick Callahan, a renegade doctor, whose impassioned plea for help to support his relief efforts in war-torn Africa moves her deeply. As a result, Sarah embarks upon a journey of discovery that leads to danger, heartbreak and romance in the far corners of the world.
What's left behind the scenes
- Oliver Stone was originally scheduled to direct the film, but he dropped out of the project just before filming began.
- The lead female role was originally written for Catherine Zeta-Jones, but she had to decline due to her pregnancy. Meg Ryan was then invited to take her place, but she also dropped out of the project shortly before filming. Only after that did the role go to Angelina Jolie.
- Kevin Costner and Ralph Fiennes were contenders for the lead male role.
- Filming began on December 15, 2001 (instead of the planned February) and wrapped on May 4, 2002.
