• The film is based on the short story of the same name by William Gibson.
• Initially, Val Kilmer and Jane March were planned for the leading roles.
• The Japanese version of the film is seven minutes longer than the release version.
• At the time the script was written (1993), it was planned to make 'Johnny Mnemonic' a black and white film with a budget of no more than one million dollars.
• The film was in post-production for almost a year.
• The film was almost finished when 'Speed' (1994) was released, instantly turning Keanu Reeves into an action star.
