What's left behind the scenes
- To play Jackie DiNorsio, Diesel gained nearly 15 kilograms and spent two hours a day in makeup.
- Jackie DiNorsio personally chose Vin Diesel to portray him on screen. To the actor’s great surprise, DiNorsio made his decision after watching Rob Cohen’s action film *The Fast and the Furious* starring Vin Diesel.
- Director Sidney Lumet (1924-2011) made Vin Diesel arrive at script read-throughs in full makeup and in character, to make it easier for the rest of the cast to react to his character.
- Screenwriter T.J. Mancini obtained official transcripts of court proceedings and used them in the courtroom scenes.
- The court case depicted in the film is the longest criminal trial in the history of American justice.
- Sidney Lumet personally selected all of the extras.
