To play Jackie DiNorsio, Diesel gained nearly 15 kilograms and spent two hours a day in makeup.
Jackie DiNorsio personally chose Vin Diesel to portray him on screen. To the actor’s great surprise, DiNorsio made his decision after watching Rob Cohen’s action film *The Fast and the Furious* starring Vin Diesel.
Director Sidney Lumet (1924-2011) made Vin Diesel arrive at script read-throughs in full makeup and in character, to make it easier for the rest of the cast to react to his character.
Screenwriter T.J. Mancini obtained official transcripts of court proceedings and used them in the courtroom scenes.
The court case depicted in the film is the longest criminal trial in the history of American justice.
Sidney Lumet personally selected all of the extras.
