What's left behind the scenes

  • Saoirse Ronan was considered for the role of Wanda Maximoff.
  • The film was named after the 2013 Marvel comic book series “The Age of Ultron.” However, Kevin Feige said that this particular comic book would not be used as a storyline.
  • Joss Whedon described the film as follows: “It’s smaller. More personal. There’s more pain. New events will be shown that need to happen with the characters, not just a rehash of what happened in the first part. The main theme of the film will be completely new.”
  • When creating "Avengers: Age of Ultron", Joss Whedon drew inspiration from the films "The Godfather Part II" (1974) and "Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back" (1980).
  • For the role of Ultron, Joss Whedon saw only James Spader from the very beginning, because of his "hypnotic voice that could be frighteningly calm and convincing, and at the same time simple and funny".
  • The appearance of Quicksilver in the film sparked an active discussion about the character's appearance in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014). Previously, Quicksilver's presence had been discussed in "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006) and in "The Avengers" (2012), but due to difficulties with the rights to the Quicksilver character, he never appeared in those films. In May 2013, Marvel and Fox Studio resolved all legal issues, and it was decided that Quicksilver would appear in both "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015) and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014).
  • Hugh Jackman expressed his interest in appearing in this project, saying he would like to see how his character, Wolverine, would look compared to Tony Stark.
  • Scarlett Johansson was pregnant during the filming of this movie, so all scenes with her were filmed as quickly as possible while it wasn't yet noticeable that she was pregnant. Three stunt doubles were also used, which caused a lot of confusion among the other actors, as they said all the doubles looked incredibly like Johansson. Chris Evans said it got to the point where he would greet and start a conversation with one of them and only realize during the conversation that it wasn't Johansson.
  • Lindsay Lohan tried out for the role of Wanda Maximoff.
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen played husband and wife in "Godzilla" (2014), and in this film, brother and sister.
  • Hulk has updated his wardrobe with tight-fitting pants that he wears under his regular clothes. Now Banner won't be caught in an awkward situation, ending up half-naked after his transformation into Hulk turns all his clothes to rags. The new pants, made from high-strength microfiber fabric, stretch as Banner transforms into Hulk.
  • Unique filming equipment used during the shooting of episodes in Seoul included drones and remote-controlled cars, which allowed for filming scenes from incredible angles unavailable to either camera operators or helicopters. Producers invited specialists from South Korea to the filming: Mentru Pa, winner of the national Korean drone piloting championship, and Park Min Ke, winner of the national Korean remote-control car racing championship.
  • Since the script specified that Ultron is about 2.5 meters tall, James Spader had to wear an antenna-like device made of thick wire with two red balls attached to its top, which were 1 meter above his head. This was done so that other actors could use these balls as Ultron's eyes for orientation. Elizabeth Olsen said that this structure was actually very distracting, and instinctively she still looked at the actor, not at Ultron's 'eyes.' During those moments, Aaron Taylor-Johnson constantly teased her. To make her look in the right direction, he would yell: "Red balls! Look at his balls, Lizzie!"
  • The film's trailer was viewed 34 million times on YouTube in the first 24 hours, thereby breaking the record previously held by the trailer for "Iron Man 3" (2013).
  • On the first day of shooting, James Spader impressed the other actors so much with his performance that they all applauded him after the first take.
  • In the first trailer, Ultron says the phrase "No Strings On Me"—a quote from the song "I've Got No Strings" from the cartoon "Pinocchio" (1940).
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson was asked to lose weight for his role because he looked too muscular.
  • It took Joss Whedon a whole year to convince Aaron Taylor-Johnson to play the role of Quicksilver.
  • Industrial Light & Magic developed a new motion capture system for this film called "Muse".
  • As soon as Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson learned that their roles would be based on characters from the "Marvel Ultimates" comics, they both read every issue of the series in preparation.
  • This film features more special effects (3000) than any previous Marvel film. Previously, the largest number of special effects (2750) was in "Guardians of the Galaxy" (2014).
  • According to composer Brian Tyler, the film's musical score is a tribute to the works of composer John Williams, particularly in films such as "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (1981), "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope" (1977), and "Superman" (1978).
  • Filming took place in South Africa, England, Italy, and South Korea.
  • Saša Peters was considered for the role of the Scarlet Witch.
  • Early script versions described Ultron as being created by the government to eliminate the need for the Avengers, but Ultron rebelled against his creators, and the Avengers had to reunite to stop him. However, the script was ultimately changed.
  • To avoid excessive attention and information leaks during filming, the project was codenamed "After Party".
  • Hawkeye's bow changed its design in Age of Ultron; in the first film, the bow was black, and in the second part, it became dark burgundy. It also gained infrared and sonic sights.
  • The Avengers Tower set was the largest set ever built for a MARVEL film at the time of the film's release.
  • Joss Whedon decided to include Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the film because he felt their abilities would look great on screen: "Their abilities are visually very interesting... Quicksilver has super speed, and Scarlet Witch has spells and telekinesis. These abilities are different from the abilities of the heroes in the first film, and therefore will give the second part a fresh feel."
  • In the comics, Ultron was created by Dr. Hank Pym (Ant-Man). In this film, Ultron is a secret project of Tony Stark.
  • Stan Lee cameo: a veteran at Tony Stark's party.
  • Hawkeye, also known as Clint Barton, named his son Nathaniel Pietro Barton in honor of the character Quicksilver/Pietro Maximoff who saved him in the battle with Ultron. At the end of the film, Natasha Romanoff sees Barton's son on her phone, wearing clothes with the inscription "Nathaniel Pietro Barton."
  • The film was named after the 2013 Marvel Comics series "Age of Ultron." However, Kevin Feige stated that this particular comic would not be used as the plotline.
  • Joss Whedon described the film as follows: "It's smaller. More personal. There's more pain. New events will be shown that need to happen to the characters, rather than just replaying what happened in the first part. The main theme of the film will be completely new."
