What's left behind the scenes
- Josh Brolin's father, James Brolin, played Ronald Reagan in the film "The Reagans" (2003).
- According to James Cromwell, who played George H.W. Bush, the role was offered to Warren Beatty and Harrison Ford.
- Brolin had to lose weight rapidly when playing young Bush, and then gain it back just as quickly.
- Christian Bale was originally slated to play George Bush. But he dropped out at the very last moment. Stone urgently needed a replacement and found Josh Brolin.
- The film was initially titled “Bush,” but was later renamed “W.”
- Filming began on May 20, 2008, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and wrapped on July 11th.
