What's left behind the scenes
- Several weeks before filming began, Baltasar Getty fell from a tree and broke both wrists. Despite such a serious injury, the director insisted on his casting and even decided to incorporate it into the script, with a significant portion of the film featuring his character with his arm bandaged while the actor's fracture healed.
- Chris Furrh also starred in another film that same year about a group of teenagers stranded on a deserted island. It was the television drama 'Exile' (1990).
- In William Golding's book and the earlier 1963 adaptation, the boys were British, but here they become students at an American military school and belong to different racial and ethnic groups.
- Filming took place in August – September 1988 in Los Angeles, Hawaii, and Jamaica.
