Alain Moreau's investigation into the death of his identical twin brother leads him from the beauty of the south of France to the mean streets of New York City and into the arms of his brother's beautiful girlfriend. Pursued by ruthless Russian mobsters and renegade FBI agents, the duo race against time to solve his brother's murder and expose an international conspiracy.
What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, the film was to be titled "Exchange," but the film company decided that the public wouldn't understand all the nuances and gave the film the title "Bloodstone," as more suitable for a film in the "action" genre. For some time, the film was advertised under that title, but it was ultimately decided that the title lacked something characteristic of films starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, and the title was changed to "Maximum Risk."
- The scene in the subway was filmed in New York and Philadelphia. The scene of the foot chase through the streets and down the stairs to the subway was filmed in Brooklyn, New York, while the scenes on the subway platform were filmed in Philadelphia.
- Filming took place in France, Canada, and the United States from January 18 to April 8, 1996.
