- On the last day of filming, Clark Gable stated: 'Good Lord! I’m happy this picture is finally finished. She [Monroe] nearly gave me a heart attack.' The next day, Gable suffered a myocardial infarction and died eleven days later.
- John Huston earned $250 by filming himself in a cameo role.
- A doctor oversaw Marilyn Monroe and Montgomery Clift around the clock during filming, as both had problems with alcohol and medical stimulants.
- "The Misfits" was written by Arthur Miller as a short story while he was waiting for his divorce from Marilyn Monroe in Reno. Miller's marriage to Monroe was dissolved after filming concluded.
