Short description

When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good.

What's left behind the scenes

Filming, which began in Toronto (Canada), was soon suspended and then resumed in Luxembourg.
The first trailer features the song "Welcome Home" by the American progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria.
One month before the film's originally announced premiere (which was in December 2008), the release date was postponed to September 9, 2009.
Writer Dmitry Glukhovsky wrote the text for the Russian-language version of the film. Glukhovsky also wrote the backstory for his version of the animated film – the story "A Scientist’s Diary. A Prequel to the Animated Film '9'.
