What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming, which began in Toronto (Canada), was soon suspended and then resumed in Luxembourg.
  • The first trailer features the song "Welcome Home" by the American progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria.
  • One month before the film's originally announced premiere (which was in December 2008), the release date was postponed to September 9, 2009.
  • Writer Dmitry Glukhovsky wrote the text for the Russian-language version of the film. Glukhovsky also wrote the backstory for his version of the animated film – the story "A Scientist’s Diary. A Prequel to the Animated Film '9'.
