Short description
Childlike Englishman, Mr. Bean, is an incompetent watchman at the Royal National Gallery. After the museum's board of directors' attempt to have him fired is blocked by the chairman, who has taken a liking to Bean, they send him to Los Angeles to act as their ambassador for the unveiling of a historic painting to humiliate him. Fooled, Mr. Bean must now successfully unveil the painting or risk his and a hapless Los Angeles curator's termination.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, the producers wanted to cast an unknown actor as General Newton, but when Burt Reynolds, a longtime fan of the television series, asked for a role in the film, they couldn't refuse the famous actor.
  • When the film aired on the American television channel NBC in 2000, the scene in which Mr. Bean shows the middle finger was replaced with another scene where the character orders a hot dog with all possible toppings. At the moment David is about to photograph his friend, Mr. Bean's gaze freezes on the huge hot dog with disgust.
  • "Mr. Bean" was the first film to gross over $100 million worldwide before its American premiere.
  • Steve Martin, also a big fan of the TV series, wanted to play the role of David Langley.
