What's left behind the scenes

  • The film opens with a scene from Robert Boris's comedic drama "Oxford Blues" (1984), starring Rob Lowe.
  • During a trip to Europe, Anna de la Vega and Jamie Davenport, played by Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest respectively, visit a museum and a hidden Catholic church (known as the Church of Our Lord in the Attic), located in a 17th-century building in Amsterdam.
  • "My Year in Oxford" was initially written as a screenplay, which was then reworked into a novel. Author Julia Whelan was commissioned to write the screenplay, and she soon realized that the story definitely had the potential to become a literary work. The book was published before the screenplay was adapted for the screen.
  • The food truck shown in the film actually exists and operates in Oxford. It’s called "Hasan’s."
  • Unlike what is depicted in the film, romantic relationships between professors and students are prohibited at Oxford.
