The film opens with a scene from Robert Boris's comedic drama "Oxford Blues" (1984), starring Rob Lowe.
During a trip to Europe, Anna de la Vega and Jamie Davenport, played by Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest respectively, visit a museum and a hidden Catholic church (known as the Church of Our Lord in the Attic), located in a 17th-century building in Amsterdam.
"My Year in Oxford" was initially written as a screenplay, which was then reworked into a novel. Author Julia Whelan was commissioned to write the screenplay, and she soon realized that the story definitely had the potential to become a literary work. The book was published before the screenplay was adapted for the screen.
The food truck shown in the film actually exists and operates in Oxford. It’s called "Hasan’s."
Unlike what is depicted in the film, romantic relationships between professors and students are prohibited at Oxford.
