- Josh Hartnett was initially cast as Tino, who was eventually played by James Franco, but he left the project to play Danny in Michael Bay's war drama "Pearl Harbor" (2001).
- Fairuza Balk grew her hair for filming with Scott Calvert, and used special hairpins during the shooting of the pool scene.
- In one scene, Leon (played by Stephen Dorff) dreamed that his brother Bobby (played by Brad Renfro) died of an overdose. In 2008, Renfro actually died of an overdose.
