The film is based on the works of Carolyn Keene (a collective pseudonym under which over forty books about Nancy Drew have been written since 1930).
Nancy's dress, which she wore to the Birthday party, caused a lot of trouble. It wrinkled almost with every movement. 10 identical dresses were needed to film the scene.
Nancy Drew is 17 years old in the film – 17 candles can be seen on the cake in the birthday scene.
