- Sindbad's character is largely similar to that of Captain Jack Sparrow from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series.
- The latest DreamWorks animated film created using traditional hand-drawn animation techniques.
- The filmmakers added several additional scenes with Spike, Sindbad's dog, to the plot – he was that popular, on par with Sindbad himself.
- Michelle Pfeiffer and Catherine Zeta-Jones met each other only when they arrived at the television studio for filming a daytime show as part of the promotional campaign for this animated film.
- In both the original legend and all previous adaptations, Sindbad was a Muslim and originally from Baghdad, roughly from the period of the "Golden Age" (762-1258 AD). In this project, Sindbad is a follower of the Greek religion with a pantheon of gods. His friend Proteus is a Greek ruler of Sicily, meaning all the events take place between 733 and 212 BC.
- Michelle Pfeiffer agreed to participate in this project only because her children persuaded her to do so.
